Locally grown pine (Winter Rainfall Area) has specific inherent
properties that give it distinct advantages over other Nationally
grown pine species, namely:
- Slow growth which results in higher density, and added strength.
- The average density of 600 Kg/M³ is far in excess of what is
achieved in Summer Rainfall Areas i.e. 450Kg/M³ · This means a
stronger and more stable product.
In-House Quality Assurance ensures that all CAPE SAWMILLS products
conform to customer expectations. CAPE PINE STRUCTURAL LUMBER
Fine Sawn or Planed All Round Cape Pine, produced in sizes
to suit market conditions for structural purposes, are visually graded
to SANS 1783 specification, and range from Grades S5 to S7. i.o.w. a
minimum stress in bending of 5Mpa is allowed. (The majority of Cape
Sawmills timber is Grade S7 and above) Timber can be CCA or TBTO
pressure treated to SANS 1388 Specification.
CAPE LAM Cape Sawmills is the only company in SA capable of
producing laminated timber that combines aesthetic properties with
unique strength properties verified by regular proof loading tests.
Manufactured from Cape Pine to stringent SANS specifications,
(SANS1460) CAPE LAM has a Strength in Bending of 8Mpa and a Modulus of
Elasticity of 9000Mpa. Depth varies from 147mm to 1200mm in 33mm
multiples, with a length of up to 15 M, CAPELAM is pressure treated
with TBTO as protection from fungal and insect attack.
LAMTICO These are the "Rolls Royce" of Laminated
Timber Beams. Similar to CAPELAM but with superior strength
properties, i.e. a working stress of 10Mpa and a MOE of 10000, they
are sought after by many discerning architects, who like to combine
superior strength with aesthetic properties. The laminates are 21mm
thick, and, like CAPELAM, the beams can also be manufactured up to
1200mm in depth and 15M in length.
V P DEK Manufactured throughout from Cape Pine, this
extremely popular shutterboard, manufactured to SANS 929
Specification, is widely sought after for it's reliability, strength and
versatility. With a maximum permissible bending stress of 10 Mpa
and MOE of 7,4 KgN/M², it's strength advantages can be utilized to
the full. The 16,2 mm thick core strips is covered by two 1,5 Cape
Pine veneers on either side. These veneers are at right angles to each
other, which gives the board required stability.
CAPE DEK Similar to V P DEK, except that the one outer face
veneer is rotary cut Cieba veneer, as opposed to Pine veneer, this
product is also popular for alternative uses to shuttering, e.g.
different types of furniture. Suitable for shuttering, CAPE DEK is
also popular for its aesthetic properties.
PHENOPLY These boards, produced to SANS 929 Specification,
consist of 1,5mm thickness Cape Pine veneers throughout , and with a
high density of 750 Kgs/M³, and strength properties only slightly
less than VP DEK, it is used for a variety of products varying from
Furniture components to structural items e.g. Ceiling, Roofing,
Cladding and Formwork.
BLOCKBOARD Available in 18mm or 21mm thicknesses, and
complying with SANS 929, the construction is similar to VP Dek, but
the Pine outer veneers are specially selected for aesthetic appeal and
Urea adhesives are used in place of Phenol Resins. These boards are
predominately used for producing furniture components and Internal
paneling.
